A 4-part teaching series

Strength in the Struggle

When our limitations become a stage for His power. Walk through 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 and learn to ask for removal, admit weakness, receive sufficient grace, and rest in the strength of Christ.

The series path

From asking God to remove it to resting in His strength.

The teaching follows Paul through a deeply human progression. The thorn may not immediately change, but Paul changes as Christ's grace becomes enough for the very place where Paul has reached his limit.

01 - Remove It

Lord, take this away.

God's refusal to remove something does not mean God has refused to do something. Faith can ask honestly and still trust while waiting.

02 - Admit It

Weak enough to admit it.

God cannot be my strength in a weakness I refuse to acknowledge. Admission is not defeat; it is the beginning of dependence.

03 - Receive It

Grace is enough.

God may not give everything I want for tomorrow, but He promises sufficient grace for today. Today's burden receives today's grace.

04 - Rest In It

When weak becomes strong.

Rest is activity without self-sufficiency. The weak place can become the dwelling place of Christ's power.

Listen through the series

Four teachings. One journey through the struggle.

Listen in order and use the study material below as a guided companion. Week 4 is built into the design so the final recording can be added as soon as it is available.

Week 1Remove It

Lord, Take This Away

The struggle we desperately want God to remove, and the honest prayer that begins the journey.

Week 2Admit It

Weak Enough to Admit It

The weakness we do not want anyone, including ourselves, to acknowledge can become the place Christ meets us.

Week 3Receive It

Grace Is Enough

Grace is not only how we begin with Jesus. It is how we keep walking with Him when strength runs out.

Week 4Rest In It

Finding Rest in the Struggle

Rest begins when I stop treating my limitations as a problem Jesus needs me to hide.

01 Remove ItGod's refusal to remove something does not mean God has refused to do something. +

Primary movement

Bring God the circumstance you want changed. Paul asked. Jesus asked in Gethsemane. Strong faith does not mean pretending something does not hurt.

Study focus

  • The thorn is the thing you keep wishing God would remove.
  • You can keep asking without stopping trusting.
  • Do not mistake an unchanged circumstance for an inactive God.

Practice

Pray: "Jesus, I still ask You to change this. But until You do, show me what You are doing in me and through me."

02 Admit ItGod cannot be my strength in a weakness I refuse to acknowledge. +

Primary movement

Stop protecting the image of strength and bring Christ the truth. Weakness is not automatically sin; sin calls for repentance, weakness calls for dependence.

Study focus

  • Paul stops hiding what he cannot fix.
  • Pride says, "I can." Shame says, "Hide." Grace says, "Come."
  • Weakness does not disqualify you from His presence.

Practice

Finish honestly: "The place where I most need Christ's strength is..."

03 Receive ItI do not need tomorrow's strength today. I need today's grace. +

Primary movement

Receive what Christ is providing, not only the answer you requested. Grace saves, sustains, strengthens, teaches, carries, empowers, and meets us where ability ends.

Study focus

  • Jesus did not explain the thorn; He promised grace in it.
  • God often gives grace like manna - enough for today.
  • Grace is not earned by trying harder. It is received by depending deeper.

Practice

Name what you are carrying, what you are trying to control, and what grace God has provided today.

04 Rest In ItMy weakness becomes a place of strength when I stop depending on my power and start resting in Christ's. +

Primary movement

Dwell, depend, desist, and display. Rest does not mean quitting. It means activity freed from the illusion that everything depends on you.

Study focus

  • The weak place can become the dwelling place of Christ's power.
  • Your hope is not that you are stronger than you think; your hope is that Christ is stronger than you can imagine.
  • The testimony is not that the struggle was good. The testimony is that God was faithful.

Practice

Pray with open hands: "Jesus, this is too heavy for me, but it is not too heavy for You."

Practical formation

Dwell. Depend. Desist. Display.

Week 4 gathers the whole series into four lived practices. They help turn the study from information into a way of walking with Christ in the middle of pressure.

Dwell

Stay where Christ's power rests.

The place you most want to escape can become the place where you know His presence most deeply.

Depend

Stop calling self-sufficiency maturity.

Dependence on Jesus is not a defect in Christianity. It is the design of Christianity.

Desist

Lay down what only God can carry.

Rest asks us to stop acting as though every outcome depends entirely on us.

Display

Let the treasure be seen.

The cracks in the vessel do not cancel the treasure. Sometimes they make the treasure more visible.

Group conversation

Move from reaction to revelation together.

Use these prompts with a class, small group, leadership team, or trusted friend after listening through the lessons.

What struggle have you repeatedly asked God to remove, and how has waiting affected your view of Him?

Where are you spending energy trying to appear stronger than you really feel?

What is the difference between repentance for sin and dependence in weakness in your present situation?

What part of tomorrow are you trying to carry today?

What grace has God already provided for the step in front of you?

What would it look like to remain active without carrying the illusion that everything depends on you?

Seven-day practice

A week of depending deeper.

Freedom grows through repeated, truth-shaped choices. Practice before pressure makes a wise response more available during pressure.

Day 1

Name it.

Write the struggle you have been asking God to remove.

Day 2

Tell truth.

Say honestly where your strength has reached its limit.

Day 3

Ask again.

Pray for relief while also asking God what He is doing in you.

Day 4

Receive today.

Identify one expression of grace available for this day.

Day 5

Share wisely.

Invite a trusted person to pray with you or help carry the burden.

Day 6

Release control.

Name an outcome you are trying to control and place it before Christ.

Day 7

Rest your weight.

Take the next faithful step without pretending the power comes from you.

Final series declaration

The place where my power ends can become the place where Christ's power rests.

Ask for removal. Admit your weakness. Receive today's grace. Rest in His strength.
